BODE Country House is a boutique hotel born from a 150-year-old agricultural estate — once an olive and wine press — that has been lovingly transformed by owners Stefano and Catarina into a stylish countryside sanctuary near Monsanto. The design philosophy draws from Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection. Interiors feature minimalist yet warm decor, high ceilings, and carefully curated furnishings. Eight rooms and a two-bedroom cottage each look out onto the surrounding countryside and granite mountains. The five-hectare property is designed to deepen your connection with nature: the infinity pool nestles among granite boulders, and activities include nature walks, bird watching, and olive harvesting. The on-site Bistro brings a Mediterranean-inspired menu built from local, seasonal produce. Nearby, the ancient village of Monsanto — often called 'the most Portuguese village' — sits atop a steep granite hill, its houses built between massive boulders, with sweeping views across the valley toward Spain.
